Be Careful When Dating Online

Online dating has increased in popularity over the past few years. It allows people who might otherwise never connect to have a chance to fall in love. However, the popular MTV show called Catfish, has shed light on an alarming trend. People create fake profiles in order to satisfy their desires, or to feel a sense of love that they have never felt before. Once you establish a relationship with someone, it can be difficult to accept the fact that they are a fake. Let’s take a look at some measures you can take to prevent this from happening to you.

Once you start talking to someone you’re interested in, find out everything that you can about them. It is only natural to keep some things private; this is the internet after all. However, your potential partner should have no problem sharing their Facebook page with you. People who do not have Facebook pages, or who have pages with only a few friends, are most likely frauds. Additionally, you should ask the person to share a Skype session with you. If they are unwilling to do this, then red flags should be raised.

It is best to find out if someone is real or not early on in the conversation. Once you develop feelings for someone, things can become difficult to sort out. Never divulge any personal information with someone until you have concrete evidence that they are who they say they are.
